Delicate Matters | Exhibitions | Liz Nilsson

LUAN GALLERY

3 July- 3O August 2O15

In Delicate Matters at the Luan Gallery, Athlone, Liz Nilsson invites the viewer to reflect on how our memory is generated and how it impacts our way of life. Using layers of printed and perforated fabric modules, and cascades of thread festooned with natural objects, she builds poetic abstract tableaux which explore the human experiences of solitude, loss and the frailty of memory. The use of repetition as a tool for meditation is a signature on Nilsson's extensive oeuvre.  'I believe repetition and pattern to be cognitive and emotional necessities that hold us while we process issues around our existence. In this body of work I share my personal way of making sense of the world. The very process of making and creating can be as important as the end result; it is a delicate and intimate journey to comprehend the fragility of life and death.'
